Time To Think About The $$

Planning a wedding reception can be a daunting task for anyone, especially when it comes to the money aspect of it. On average weddings normally cost between $15,000 and $20,000. This is a very large number to pay for any one day, and it can seem unrealistic to some budget minded people. Planning a great wedding can be done however if you are not afraid to make a few alterations to your plan.

Timing Timing Timing

Having your wedding on an off peak date and time can be the easiest ways to save in the budget department. Peak wedding season runs in September - November and then spark back up in May - June. Having a wedding in these months can almost guarantee you a spike in prices. Time is also important. Peak times are anywhere between 6-10 PM. Daytime weddings are easily hundreds of dollars less than evenings. If you want to save even more money consider having your wedding on a Friday or a Sunday. Saturdays are often the most convenient days therefore the price will always be higher on those days.

Consider A Home Wedding

Home weddings or backyard weddings are simply not an option for many. People often think just because your having your wedding at a home location that it cannot be as glamorous. This is no always the case. Getting married at home if done done the right way can really add that intimate touch that is always missing when using a hall. Having it at a home residence can save you big bucks in the long run and even free up more resources for the little things.

To Skimp Or Not To Skimp

It is not always a good idea to skimp on everything when it comes to wedding planning. Here are a few recommended do's and don't when putting your plans in motion.

  • Don't skimp on hours.  Always go for at least 5 hours. The price is generally the same and you will only end up disappointed when the time goes so fast.

  • You can skimp on the horverdes but you still need some time of food for the cocktail hour. Cheese and crackers are inexpensive but still completely elegant.

  • Use the wedding cake as dessert. Many halls offer packages with or without dessert. The cake is often forgotten about when there are other items for choice. Offering the cake as dessert can save you much money and also be very practical.

  • Rent or borrow as much as possible. All the little nickel and dime things quickly add up.

  • Never be afraid to check out close out racks at department stores. As new clothing styles come out prices can drop drastically on some of these items.

Planning a wedding on a budget is always the best way to do it. The better you plan the better it will turn out. Keeping an eye on the bottom line will only allow for better planning of future events. There is always the honeymoon to plan for.
